ABOUT ME

I'm Courtney Fitzpatrick, a sculptor and mixed-media artist whose work explores the spaces between strength and fragility, spectacle and reality, and what we see versus what lies beneath the surface.

Working across materials such as metal, wood, and ceramics, I'm drawn to the ways objects and figures can hold meaning beyond their physical form. My sculptures often begin with something familiar — a gesture, an object, or a recognizable figure — and transform it into something a little less comfortable, inviting viewers to look closer and reconsider what they think they know.

My time in the United States Air Force, where I served for ten years before medically retiring, continues to influence the way I think about the body, labor, identity, and the expectations placed upon us. These experiences find their way into my work alongside an interest in performance, theatricality, and the complicated relationship between how something appears and how it is experienced.

After earning my BFA in Sculpture, I'm continuing to develop my practice and build a studio where I can experiment, work with new materials, and bring larger ideas into physical form. I'm interested in making work that doesn't necessarily offer answers, but creates space for curiosity, discomfort, and connection.

Ultimately, I want my work to leave room for the viewer to bring their own experiences to it. Sometimes, what a piece means is less important than what it makes you feel.
